Egg carton insect crafts

There are so many ways to turn the egg carton into something fun instead of just throwing it away.

Reward: Shake Up Gold!

  • Paint
  • Egg carton
  • Scissors
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Paintbrush

Start by cutting a section of an egg carton that has 4 cups. Trim off the sides so they are smoother and cut the edges so it goes inward.

Take one pipe cleaner and wrap it around the bottom and twist at the top to make butterfly antennas. Choose 3-4 colored paints and do rings around each egg carton cup.

Take another paintbrush and pull it down through each ring of colors. It makes this awesome tie dye effect! Let dry and you’re done!

  • Egg carton
  • Green paint, markers, or crayons
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Glue
  • Exacto knife or other sharp object (to poke holes)
  • Cut the egg cartons into separate pieces.
  • Paint the egg carton pieces with the black paint and allow them to dry.
  • Take your black pom pom & glue on as many googley eyes as will fit.
  • Glue your googley eyed pom pom to the painted egg carton piece.
  • Cut 2 pipe cleaners in 4 (each) and bend them slightly towards the top end to make your spider legs.
  • Glue the legs onto your spider, allow to dry and you are done!
  • You could use fishing line to hang these cute critters too!

For the “bounce”:

  • Rubber ball
  • Straight pins

Instructions

1) Cut a three-section strip from an egg carton. Use paint, markers, or crayons to color it green.

2)  Bend pipe cleaners to form the grasshopper legs. Either poke a hole in the egg carton and hook them through that way or simply bend them over the edge of the egg carton and tape them down on the inside. Cut a smaller section for the antennae and fold it in half. Cut two small holes in the front, top egg carton section and push the pipe cleaner through to form the antennae.

3)  Glue on wiggly eyes.

To make the grasshopper jump:

Find a rubber ball large enough to fill the middle section of the body. Use straight pins pushed through the carton into the ball to hold it in place.

Our ball was a little too small, so it just did flips. A larger ball should provide for more hopping action. Be sure the eyes and pipe cleaners are glued and stuck in tight though.  Also, if you add the straight pins, be sure to do it with your parents.
